I am originally from Alabama and earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Auburn University where I graduated summa cum laude. I taught elementary school in North Carolina for 7 years before my husband Edward, our son Knox, and I moved to Beaufort in 2004. After our daughter Elizabeth was born, I became a certified Kindermusik teacher and offered classes for infants through 5-year-olds. I later taught Music and Movement classes at 4 different area preschools. I also worked as a Christian Educator for 4 years, creating and leading Christian education opportunities for children from preschool through 5th grade.  Most recently, I have been the primary classroom teacher for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds in local preschools. I also used my education background when I served on the original Charter Committee to envision and open Riverview Charter School, which both of our children attended.

Bluebird House Preschool has been a dream of mine for some time, and I am so excited it has come to fruition. Teaching preschool is my passion, and it is an honor to be part of so many children’s lives and to help them learn and grow while celebrating the things that make them individuals and allowing them to enjoy the magic of childhood. My training in Kindermusik, STEAM education, and Play-Based Learning all shape the environment I have created at Bluebird House Preschool.

Parent Testimonials

Mary has lovingly instructed our boys in various programs over the years, always with creative, fun, age-appropriate instruction that keeps them engaged and eager for more. From their mouths: "Ms. Mary thinks of the best ideas!" and "It's always so fun to learn from her!" She is a master at meeting each child where he or she is, and coaching them to their full potential. She is a true gem and we are so grateful to have had her as part of our boys' early education experience -- they are better for it, and so are we.

I have seen Mary’s talent and dedication through her teachings of preschool, children’s church, music class, summer camp and even a table manners class. We had the privilege of having our daughter in her Pre-K class. I was impressed by the creative ideas Mary incorporated into learning. She keeps the children engaged with hands-on activities, and she always finds the perfect children’s book to go with the lesson. The love and affection she gives to the children is a true bonus in having Mary as a teacher. It didn’t take long to recognize Mary’s knowledge and experience in teaching and working with children. Our daughter was more than ready for Kindergarten and has a love for learning and school since she was in Mary’s class. Our family holds a special place in our hearts for Mary.

Mary was such a special gift to us. We were new to the area and transitioning my children into new schools. Her ability to nurture her students and their whole family was such a blessing to me. My children were not only taught what they needed to know to excel in kindergarten, they were also taught kindness, and manners, and patience, all while having so much fun.
